The golf swing taught here at aperfectswing.com is a distillation of understanding that
incorporates the foundations of
Mike Austin’s methods.
We offer Books and DVDs that
teach you how to do it:
The late Mike Austin was long recognized as one of golfs finest golf instructors
and widely respected as one of the all time greatest ball strikers. He hit
phenomenally long drives until well into his 80s and only stopped then due to
a devastating stroke. Up until the time of his stroke he was still hitting the ball
well over 300 yards with an effortless looking swing. Between the ages of 75
and 79 he toured the world with the 350 club, anchoring the team in their
competitions and averaging an astounding 312 yards in all kinds of playing
conditions.
He set the all time record for the longest drive, 515 yards, ever hit in a
professionally sanctioned golf event. This was done at the age of 64, in the
US Senior Open a major tournament, at the Winterwood Golf Course in Las Vegas, NV. The event was witnessed by thousands who lined the fairway. The ball carried in the air for about 450 yards, landing on the fringe of the green and then bounced on another 65 yards or so. The shot was without a doubt an
unbelievable event, made even more mind boggling when one considers the
antiquated equipment he was using: The 44” wooden headed driver he was
using had a steel shaft, and impacted a wound Titleist balata ball!
How far the shot would have traveled using todays modern equipment is beyond speculation. Modern clubs and balls adding at least 10% more. If this drive were hit today it would win any long drive event entered. Mike did this both from physical strength as well as perhaps the most mechanically sound and well leveraged swing ever invented.
He is no longer with us, but his legacy hopefully will live forever.
